Eric Lander (born 27th May 1924 in Rugby, died 28th October 1999 in Kerrier, Cornwall) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly as Mr Toller, the boss of Dennis Tanner at Crowning Glory in June 1968; and he returned to the programme in two stints from August to September 1972 and June to July 1974 as draughtsman Ron Cooke, who eventually married corner shop owner Maggie Clegg.
His career was dominated by his role as Detective Inspector Harry Baxter in No Hiding Place and Echo Four Two. His career continued on stage and television screen in programmes like Trial and Sanctuary in which he had recurring roles and in guest appearances in, amongst others, The Citadel, Emergency-Ward 10, Sexton Blake, Crown Court, General Hospital and Crossroads.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cymbeline, Othello, Henry VIII, Measure for Measure, Julius Caesar, King Lear and Dear Brutus for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include The Case of the Frightened Lady, The Petrified Forest, Conduct Unbecoming, The Business of Murder and The Winslow Boy.
