Plot[]
Part One: Audrey admits to Dickie that she likes the extra money he’s bringing in. Hilda rushes round her work at the Rovers, determined to be on the spot when Edith arrives now that Val is in hospital. Ray puzzles Annie when he checks that she will be serving at lunch time. Edith prefers the (Maisonette)|flat to No.9 as she feels it gives Ken and Val more privacy. She’s proven wrong when Hilda bursts in to see her. Audrey and Lucille go on a shopping spree. Edith doesn’t take to Hilda and is grateful when Elsie, also calling in, gets rid of her by telling her that she’s just spotted Stan talking to his fancy piece from Inkerman Street. However, Elsie makes herself equally at home, annoying Edith all over again. Ray tells Ena and Maggie that his plan about Annie is gathering pace. At the yard, Ray meets old friend Connie Robinson. He tells her he wants her to pose as pub landlady from Hyde.
Part Two: Audrey and Lucille admire their newly-purchased clothes. Connie introduces herself to Jack and Annie. Forewarned, Elsie, Ena and Stan also claim to know her. They claim that Connie’s pub has a weekend organist and serves a famed hotpot. Intrigued by the idea, Annie asks for a word with her. Edith buys chocolates for Val and is pleased to meet Ena again. Annie buys a large number of ingredients for hotpot from the corner shop, including a large packet of salt. Audrey and Lucille visit the arcade to show off their new clothes. Dickie also hears about the many household items that Audrey’s bought. Annie announces to the eager regulars that she’s prepared a hotpot. Jack warns a celebrating Ray not to count his chickens yet. Annie serves the hotpot to those who’ve asked for it and then demands 2/6 each. Jack gloats to Ray that he and Annie saw through Connie. Annie reveals to Jack and Lucille that she's also oversalted the recipe to make the customers drink more. Edith is annoyed when Elsie calls in again and tells her that Coronation Street isn’t right for Ken and Val.

- Violet Carson was ill on the day that this episode was recorded and speaks with a croaky throat. Ray Langton is given an extra line of dialogue to remark on her condition.
- Ken Barlow tells Edith Tatlock that he and Val have been married five years, whereas the wedding actually took place seven years before in Episode 171 (1st August 1962).
