Plot[]
Part One: Annie tries to get Hilda to sign a nomination form for the "Perfect Landlady" competition, but she holds out, asking for the sixpence an hour pay rise they discussed two months before. Dickie didn't get home until 1.00am the night before and he shoots out again, saying he'll be just as late this time. Ena thinks Audrey ought to put her foot down. Val's knee is still hurting, and Ena tells her to get it looked at. Len has gone to Nottingham to see Stanley. Stan suggests to Ray that he looks out for yard work while cleaning windows. Val worries that there are money problems in the Flemings' marriage. The mostly useless contents of the suggestion box are read out by Annie with assistance from Ray, including getting a colour television in the bar and the showing of blue movies. Dickie asks Bill Blakeley for more time to consider his job offer. Annie says she will announce her decision of what suggestions are to be taken up that night. Dickie accepts the job and Blakely instantly sacks Ron. Dickie feels awful.
Part Two: Dickie returns home for lunch, only for Audrey to go to work before he can tell her about his new employment. Minnie tells Annie about an old-time saloon bar she used to be taken to by her father. Back at work, Dickie admits to Sandra that he feels guilty about Ron and is told that it's Blakely's way of conducting business. Blakely advises Dickie to keep the news of the new job from Audrey until he can hand over a wedge of cash to sweeten her. Stan tells Ray about a window that needs repairing but admits that it's because he accidently kicked it in. Ray docks his wages for the cost of its repair. Val rejects Albert and Ken's suggestion that she go and stay with her parents for a while to rest. Dickie lies to Audrey that he's on new shift patterns at his engineering job but with lots of overtime. Annie announces she's rejecting the suggestions made but is going to make changes of her own. Ena isn't pleased to hear her say that people won't recognise the Rovers once she's finished with it.
