Plot[]
Part One: Gordon sees Lucille in her wedding dress as he enters her bedroom. She's appalled. She sees his downcast face and mistakenly thinks he doesn't like it. When he assures her that he does, she tells him she loves him. Elsie sees that something is on Maggie's mind. Lucille chatters away to Gordon until he tells her that he doesn't want to get married. She tries to assure him that everything will be fine, but he has to admit that he doesn't know why he feels the way that he does. Annie prepares the Cleggs' tea with Hilda until Jack breaks the news that the wedding's off. Annie shoots upstairs to speak to her ward. Furious, she tells Lucille that the matter isn't over yet. Ken is non-committal when Val asks him what he wants for his tea. Jack sees that Annie is determined to stir up trouble. He then gives Lucille fatherly advice, telling her that Gordon was courageous to do what he did and to enjoy life herself before entering into marriage. Hilda spreads the news until Elsie shuts her up. Jack can't prevent Annie going out to confront the Cleggs.
Part Two: Effie plans to decorate No.1's back room as a surprise for Albert. Val helps her look over wallpaper designs. Ken scoffs at the choices. Annie accuses Maggie of pushing Gordon into jilting Lucille. She stands her ground and insists her son has made the right decision, accusing Annie of disliking Gordon until his exam result. Maggie has to control her temper when Annie tells Gordon he's unreliable and unstable like his father. Audrey tells Lucille she can do better than someone like Gordon but she's too upset to listen. Lucille takes her temper out on Emily. Ken complains about Val's choice of hamburgers for tea, and she tells him to cook himself from now onwards. Hilda prompts Len into saying he's going to sort out Gordon on Lucille's behalf.
