Plot[]
Part One: Emily packs her things, prior to moving back to the Rovers. She tells Elsie she's grateful for putting her up, even though she admits they're very different people. Dave has a dreadful hangover after night carousing. He needs help dealing with Ena but Elsie refuses to get involved. Audrey buys in cold cures for a still-suffering Dickie. She's not overly sympathetic to his condition, suggesting his mother would be better at looking after him. Len also has a sore throat, but Maggie and Val refuse to serve him cigarettes and exacerbate his condition. Elsie tells Ena about Dave wanting to see him. He agrees to drop Minnie's debt because of Ena's threat to report him to the Inland Revenue. He gives her a wad of notes to keep quiet. Annie approves of Gordon now he is an accountant. She also refuses to sell cigarettes to a miserable Len. When her back is turned, he helps himself and leaves the money on the bar. Ena discovers Minnie has disappeared from No.5, leaving a note asking her to look after Sunny Jim.
Part Two: Lucille asks Emily if she fancies Reverend James and she replies that he’s “get-onable”. Ena looks for Minnie. Annie senses that something is wrong with Ena as she sits brooding in the snug, but she can’t her to say open up to her. Feeling rejuvenated, Len goes into the Rovers. Gordon is taken aback when Annie warmly enquires about his wedding preparations. Len makes a reluctant Dickie drink neat rum to help recover his health. Annie, bringing drinks. interrupts Gordon and Lucille kissing in her room and amazes them by not objecting. Lucille is hurt when Gordon says his boss is has asked him for a meal, but he doesn't see why she should be invited. Prompted by Jack, Effie approaches Ena in the snug and is shown Minnie’s note. Effie reports back to a worried Jack that Minnie is missing. Ena returns the money to Dave and tells him Minnie has disappeared. He blames her for interfering in her friend's affairs.
