Plot[]

Part One: Len winds up Ray that he's going to run away again to avoid Basil Griffin. Elsie isn't at all pleased at the mess that Marj is getting Len into. Ken advises Albert to move to Bury completely. Albert thinks that his life is in the No.1, although he can't afford to keep two places on. Val gives him the idea of sharing No.1 with someone, halving his rent. Unimpressed with Marj's meal of burned fish fingers, Len suggests she goes away for a while to let things cool down with her husband. She is excited to think of two men fighting over her. The seemingly intimidating Basil turns up looking for Len, thinking Stan might be him. He sends him on his way to the yard. Len isn't happy when Marj turns up at the yard, as he thought she'd gone. He gives her money to be on her way but before she can leave, Basil walks in and dumps Marj's things on Len, telling him he's welcome to her.

Part Two: Albert asks Effie to be his lodger. She doesn't like the term and he suggests they be "sharers". She doesn't instantly reject the idea. Ray finds Basil is actually a meek man and is appalled to find out from him how she will drain Len of all his money and then neglect him, as she did with him. He also tells him about Marlon, her "bundle of fur on legs" pet who she dotes over. Desperate to get out of his predicament, Ray advises Len to scare Marj off by asking her to marry him. Ken and Val tell Effie what life with Albert would be like, but Elsie advises her to give it a try. Marj uses Len's housekeeping money to buy herself a new hat. He proposes and Marj says she needs to think about it. Len is delighted, convinced she's going to turn him down. Albert gives Effie a tour of the house and she agrees to move in. Elsie is shocked to hear about the proposal. Marj makes her mind up and accepts the proposal. Len is horrified.
