Plot[]

Part One: Lucille receives a letter from Concepta asking her over to Ireland for Christmas. Val asks Ken if he thinks her values are wrong. He says not but sees little wrong with the Hepworths' lifestyle where they don't allow children to change things. She reluctantly agrees to a return invitation for his friends. Ena pointedly suggests that Maggie solves a draft problem in the corner shop by employing Len to fit a thresher on door. Maggie and Len agree to stay in for the night rather than go out. Gordon is wiped out after sitting his exam on mercantile law. Minnie has a sudden thought and leaves Ena, Effie and Albert in the snug. Ken calls on Martin and Jo to proffer the invite. Hearing that Val works in a shop, Martin advises him that he should get her to spread her wings more. Emily tries to drum up support for the panto and tells Gordon and Dickie to be at a meeting at St. Mary's at 7.30pm. Martin tells Ken he's forged himself too constrained a life and he should get more out of his marriage.

Part Two: Len fixes the door. Audrey has trouble making her first-ever pie for Dickie. Val feels left out when Ken says he's had a philosophical chat with Emily, thinking she can't join in such things. Emily and the Reverend James set out the church hall and prepare for the meeting. He suggests they act as co-producers of the panto. Albert decides to give up his house. Ken is adamant he's not moving in with them. No one attends the panto meeting. An angry Emily decides to use blackmail to drum up support. Dickie is forced to have a Rovers' pie as Audrey has fled to work at the petrol station rather present him with her latest failed offering. Minnie announces that the cat's to be called Sunny Jim, after Jed. Ena enjoys telling Len that she's heard that Elsie is due back tomorrow.
