Plot[]
Part One: Minnie looks after the stray. Stan calls on her, asking her to his and Hilda's silver wedding party at the Rovers tomorrow night. Gordon erupts in anger when Maggie takes him to task for coming in late instead of studying. Lucille buys at the corner shop and tries to assure Maggie that she loves her son but is told that she's being ridiculous as they're too young and to stay away from him. Stan checks up on the party preparations and Annie demands a £10 deposit for his drinks' slate. He suddenly remembers he has to prepare a banner. Ken takes up the trumpet again and tells Minnie and Maggie that Val is threatening to throw him out because of the noise. Minnie offers to let him practice at her house. Annie feels sorry for herself, running after both Jack and the pub. Lucille snaps at her self-pitying, saying she's run her husband ragged. Emily isn't impressed with Ken's awful trumpet playing. Coming up with a sly plan, Minnie suggests he plays at the Ogdens' party, knowing he will look foolish. Maggie tells Gordon that she and Les are not giving him their permission to marry.
Part Two: Stan shows Emily and Minnie the banner he's made for the party, checking that the spelling is right. Emily panics that they need Annie's permission for both the trumpet playing and the banner and they need to present a concerted front to her. Gordon breaks the news to Lucille. The pressures building on them, he suggests they should give their relationship a rest, though remaining engaged. Annie approves warmly of the banner, and it makes her wonder if she has been a good wife and mother. Emily asks Annie to come round to No.5 to listen to Ken's playing. She thinks it's marvellous, much to Emily and Minnie's surprise. Gordon changes his mind and tells Lucille they could run away and get married.
