Jack allows him to hide in the Rovers when Len kids him on that his paramour is on his way over. Effie apologises to Val, saying her nerves have been on edge recently. Dickie is happy that Ena's idea to be rid of Albert is working out. Hilda sees Effie in the Rovers and loudly berates her for being behind with her window money. An embarrassed Effie escapes, as Hilda is taken to task by Jack, Albert and Val for her behaviour. Back at her flat, Effie checks her meagre change and considers pawning her watch.

A chirpy Len returns from having had a successful meeting with the bank manager. Ray realises that Albert has disappeared through the gents' toilet window. Albert packs and returns to Bury to escape Alice. She realises she's driven him away by being too forward. Hilda wants a new bath plug and Ray makes her pay for it. Val brings round to the yard a telegram for her which says David and Irma Barlow have had an 8lb baby boy. Audrey misses Albert. Len, Ray and Val bring Hilda to the Rovers to begin celebrating the news. Effie hears their laughter as she sits alone in her flat. Annie worries that Lucille is out late with Shirley Walton.
