Plot[]
Part One: Two lads collect for bonfire night in the Rovers until Annie throws them out. A hurt Jill tells Hilda she overheard Stan saying he doesn't want her. Dave takes Elsie out to a club. Lucille asks Ray if she can tell Gordon that Len is missing as he may be able to help, but he refuses, saying the yard's reputation would suffer if the news got out. Hilda agrees to hide Jill in the spare room, out of Stan's view. On a flimsy pretext, she tries to borrow children's books from Val. Dave asks Elsie to go away with him looking at possible flower shops to acquire, but she isn't sure. Settling down in bed, Hilda annoys Stan by wanting to talk. Arguing about what Irma looked like as a girl, Stan tries to go to the spare room to fetch an old photo and Hilda has to stop him. As he dozes off, she tries to find out if he intends to get up early in the morning.
Part Two: Elsie looks for Len as she needs his advice. Ray doesn't let on about him missing. She tells him to pass the message on to Len that she'll be in the Rovers at lunchtime. Hilda asks Annie if she can bring in some help for the cleaning, without an increase in wages, and fetches Jill in. Jack recognises her from last Christmas. Jill lets on to him that Stan doesn't know she's staying at No.13. Elsie tells Dave she's not decided yet whether to go away with him. Audrey plans the redecoration of No.3. Minnie spots Jill living at No.13. Gordon hears from Audrey that Lucille has asked for help making up an advert for the yard. He resents Lucille assisting Ray. Elsie admits to Val that she's tempted by Dave's offer. Stan is puzzled when Minnie gives him sweets to pass on, with instructions to tell her to be a good girl. He thinks they're for Hilda and Minnie's going gaga. Gordon snaps at Lucille when she tries to run the advert past him. Lucille sees Elsie waiting in the public and tells her that Len's missing.
