Plot[]
Part One: Hilda starts dropping hints to Stan about their upcoming twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Trying to cope at the yard, Ray has to placate three of the workmen who want to know if their jobs are safe. He assures them they'll be back on Ronald Wilde's hospital site soon. Elsie refuses Dave's offer to let him teach her to drive so she can run a van for The Pink Posy. Ray visits Wilde without Len. Wilde tells him he's lost faith in Len and given the work to another firm. Hilda is delighted to see Jill back. She hears that her mum is back in hospital and she's living with her Auntie Grace in Paradise Street, but she doesn't like it. The yard builders try to find out from Stan if he knows if the firm is safe. Ray overhears him warning them to be careful of him as he's just out of short pants himself. Hearing that Wilde has sacked them, the lads warn Ray that they want their pay on Friday.
Part Two: Hilda feeds Jill. She wants her to stay but has to find the right moment to ask Stan. Ray asks Jack if he knows of anyone who needs jobs doing. Questioned by Elsie, Dave tells her that he makes money because that's his chosen vocation and he has nothing else to do. Prompted by Jack, Lucille visits Ray at the yard, asking what's going on. He admits to the yard's troubles and Len's disappearance. He realises he has no option but to carry on trying to drum up work. Hilda makes Stan a special steak pie and asks if they can take Jill in. He refuses. Prompted by Hilda, Jill buys Stan some of his favourite ginger biscuits at the corner shop to help improve his mood. Lucille asks Gordon to help her find Ray work. He's immediately jealous. Val tells Jack how much Emily likes working at the nursery. Returning to No.13 through the yard with the biscuits, Jill hears Stan yelling that he doesn't want her.
