Plot[]
Part One: The inquest makes the front page of the Gazette. Stan and Hilda return to their normal jobs. Hilda is shocked to be told by Jack that Stan did a good job cleaning the Rovers. The strain has finally got to Elsie and she can't face going into work. Dave tries to bring her out of herself. Ronald Wilde takes call from Ray who lies about Len's whereabouts, despite not knowing where he is. Wilde agrees to see Len after lunch. Val puts extensions in her and Elsie's hair to try and cheer her friend up. Minnie refuses Val's offer to join them. A suited Ray looks for Len on his way to see Wilde. A hurt Hilda brings Stan into the Rovers to get Jack to repeat his comment that her husband did a better job. Jack tells her he was only kidding. Jill Morris turns up at the corner shop looking for Irma. She is upset to hear the Barlows have emigrated and leaves. Maggie's worried about what she wants Irma and David for.
Part Two: Wilde deliberately keeps Ray waiting and isn't pleased that Len isn't with him. When they talk, Wilde tells him he doesn't trust Len but he likes Ray's determination, and tells him they can still have the contract if Len signs a penalty clause. Dave turns up to take Elsie out, but she only agrees reluctantly, afraid of facing the gossip about the open verdict. Stan buys a back ointment which stinks. Lucille is at a loose end. She sulks when Gordon can't go out with her as he's on study leave for his upcoming finals. Maggie thinks she isn't being fair on her son. A happier Elsie agrees to go back to work tomorrow. The Town Hall tells Ray that Len has a housing committee meeting that afternoon. Jack gives a smelly Stan money to drink at The Flying Horse instead. Inspired by Elsie, Minnie puts a kiss curl in her hair. Gordon finds Jill in the street. She tells him that her mum's in hospital again but runs away from him when he offers to help her. Ray discovers Len has run off with the petty cash, leaving a note behind.
