Plot[]
Part One: Maggie and Val are both nervous of Ena's next move. Len offers to talk to Steve to make him see reason but Elsie stops him. Through Dave, Annie offers to give Elsie advice on flowers, saying she has a green-fingered touch. Dot is put out when Gregg can't take her out as he has to go back to Burtonwood. Gary wants to avoid meeting Steve to avoid paying him the gambling debts he owes him. Len winds up Val that Ena is after her. Spurred on by the interest the GIs are taking in some of the women in the street, Hilda has a go at Stan for not doing the same with her. Now at a loose end, Emily helps out at St. Mary's nursery. Reverend James asks her to return at 5.00pm as he has a business proposition to put to her.
Part Two: Stan pays for some cheap flowers to be sent to Hilda to make the peace. Dave offers to sort Steve out but Elsie refuses. Ena arrives at the corner shop determined to have it out with Maggie. She also accuses Val of taking a poor pensioner's job before walking out. They find out from Emily that Ena told the vicar that the shop was too much for her feet. A delighted Hilda thinks one of the GIs sent her the flowers. Reverend James asks a pleased Emily to be his new assistant at the nursery. Elsie tells Val that she's going to give Steve her decision tonight, even though she knows he won't take "no" for an answer. Maggie tries to soft soap Ena but Val silences her when she tells her that she knows about her feet. Joe tries to find out where Gregg and Gary are. A distracted Dave forgets the cigarettes when he walks out of the Rovers. In the taxi Elsie overhears on radio that Len is at Claydon Court. She asks the driver to drop her off immediately and walks back home. Hilda fails to make Stan jealous about the flowers. She is agog when the police arrive to see Elsie and ask to speak to her. Inside No.11, they tell her that Steve is dead.
