Plot[]
Part One: Elsie tells Dave she's enjoying working at The Pink Posy very much and finds out from him that her home phone seems to out of order as he can't place calls to her. Gregg and Joe worry that Steve might get mean in his determination to get Elsie back. A nervous Emily sets off for the Labour Exchange. Lucille won't go and see Gordon, determined that he should apologise to her first. She admits to Jack that she enjoyed Gary's company at the party. Val goes to Glasgow with the twins for a few days to visit her parents, prior to starting her week's temping at the corner shop. Elsie rings the operator and finds out that her incoming calls were blocked, and they've had written confirmation to confirm. She orders the block cancelled. Emily returns, not having enjoyed her visit to the Exchange. Elsie is about to go out with Dave when Steve rings.
Part Two: Emily gets an interview appointment at the Intercontinental Export & Import Company as a receptionist/typist. Steve talks Elsie into coming to see him and she makes a note of his address and phone number. Gary buys chrysanthemums from her. Lucille admits to a jealous Gordon that she likes Gary, and they row. Elsie rings Steve back to say she's changed her mind and she's not coming to see him. He slams the phone down on her. Gordon sees Gary heading to the Rovers with the flowers and blocks his way. Lucille stops the two of them fighting in the street and yells at Gordon to leave her alone. Dave sees that Elsie is upset and takes her out for a curry. Jack talks to a confused Lucille and tells her she has to make up her mind if she wants to be with Gordon or not. Emily is kept waiting for her interview with Mr Gunter, the general manager. After speaking to her, his assistant Arnold reports to him that she seems a suitable candidate as she's a sucker. Emily is told almost immediately she has the job and nervously spots the incredibly old office equipment.
