Plot[]
Part One: Dickie's realised he'd be better off serving his apprenticeship. He and Audrey make up. Elsie returns from Bristol. Walter Greenhalgh is working in Stornaway so Elsie takes the hints from a lonely Dot and invites her to stay with her. Annie returns from her relatives, only to find Jack is ill in bed with indigestion having eaten two consecutive meals cooked for him. Annie takes her anger out on Emily, who made the second meal, only to find out that Effie made the first. Rag-and-bone man Tommy Deakin collects junk from the corner shop. Ray tries his charms on Audrey, apologising for coming between her and Dickie. Dot tells Elsie that Gregg Flint has returned from Germany and contacted her. Elsie isn't pleased, as he is connected too closely with Steve. Annie is arch with Effie for causing Jack to be ill. Tommy looks for somewhere to keep Dolores, the donkey that pulls his cart, while he goes for a stay in hospital and sees Minnie as a soft touch to help him. Dickie offers to help Gordon with a stock check. Gregg takes Dot into the Rovers. He's shocked to find out that Elsie and Steve have split up and wants to see her immediately.
Part Two: Len takes Maggie to the Rovers, annoyed that Gregg is in No.11 with Elsie. Gregg is sorry to hear that Elsie and Steve have split up, but tells her that he did try and warn her as she never stood a chance with someone as inwardly cold as Steve. Ray tells Audrey she should enter the "Miss Petrol Pump Beauty Contest" which would win her £50 and gives her an entry form to complete. Elsie is annoyed with Gregg for saying negative things about his supposed friend, forcing him to tell her some examples of Steve's unempathetic manner to demonstrate to her that she wasn't to blame for their failure of her marriage. Minnie stands Effie up for a meal, who hears from a pleased Annie that she went somewhere with Emily instead. A jealous Lucille finds out that Ray is the one who persuaded Audrey to enter the contest. Returning back down the ginnel, Len and Maggie find that Emily and Minnie have taken charge of Dolores.
