Plot
Ken continues the play rehearsals and is coerced into giving Pamela Dickenson a lift home because of the escapee. Convict Frank Riley traps Val in the maisonette. The police tell Len they're concentrating their search on Victoria Street where Riley used to live. Val tells Riley she has no children and has only just married. Elsie goes to No. 3 so as not to be alone but decides to go to the Rovers instead. Dickie escorts her there. Det. Insp. Sharp tells Len there's no trace of Riley in Victoria Street. Val tries to alert Ena by banging on the water pipes but she is in the Rovers. She is terrified when Peter wakes up and Riley realises she has children. Ken phones Val from the college but Riley refuses to let her answer it, threatening to hurt Peter and Susan. Ena arrives home, hears the phone ringing without it being answered and begins to worry. Riley takes a fancy to Val and starts caressing her. Ena can't get an answer at No. 14. She runs back to the pub raises the alarm. Annie takes charge and Jack phones the police. Riley demands money and clothes from Val. He then tells her he wants something more from her. The police study plans of the maisonettes. Sharp tell the regulars to go home and not to worry as the they are watching all of the street. Val promises that she won't raise the alarm if Riley leaves her alone but he sees the police outside the window. Ken arrives at the Rovers, not knowing anything of what is happening.
