Plot[]
Part One: Dennis thinks he'll lose his job if he can't find the money. Having found Jenny in tears over the matter, Elsie gives her son £125 of Steve's money as a wedding present from her absent husband. Elsie sets off reluctantly for work. Val wants new curtains for the new flat and Ken agrees to the £36 price but still refuses to lower the asking price for No.9 for Dickie and Audrey. The upstairs floor caves in at No.3. Ray assures Mr Fleming that the house is sound, and they'll fix it up for nothing. Dennis pays back the money to Ivanhoe Parker and Jenny tells him that Ashworths have agreed to transfer her to their Bristol branch, meaning they can leave tonight. Dickie and Audrey tell a shocked Ken and Val they're buying No.3 with all improvements done free by Fairclough and Booth. Jack accompanies Maggie to the hospital where Mr Nicholas, a consultant psychiatrist, asks to see her.
Part Two: Len isn't pleased that Ray has offered to do up No.3 for free, but Ray points out that it means he can move out of 15 Mawdsley Street and use it for storage to expand for Ronald Wilde's work. Maggie is told that Les asked for psychiatric help himself and that means he's over the first hurdle, but it'll mean a long stay in a mental hospital. Mr Dean, one of Wilde's men, questions Len about the yard's ability to take on more work and gives him another contract at £185/10 per unit. Emily needs a cocktail dress for her interview next week. Jack tells her that Annie is getting unwanted replies to her advert. Len and Ray celebrate getting the contract. Elsie brings back from the store substitute beer which no one wants. Jenny makes plans over the phone with Linda in secret for something for Elsie. Dennis and Jenny join the residents in the Rovers where everyone drinks to their future good fortune. Dennis says goodbye to his upset mother as they go to catch their train. Dot worries for her friend. Ken tells Len that he can't have No.9.
