Plot[]
Part One: Emily and Lucille are impatient with Minnie as she takes a long time to decide on which dress to buy for Dennis and Jenny's wedding. Jerry tells Len he doesn't know why he's leaving but he's grown up and wants to make a fresh start somewhere else. Mr and Mrs Stothert arrive to look round No.9, having heard on the grapevine that it's for sale. Lucille insists on taking Gordon for his first drink in the Rovers, despite his stated reluctance. Jenny pushes Jerry into agreeing to be best man before he leaves. Gordon's uncomfortable when Annie suggests his parents join them for a drink after Les's bowls match with Jack. Gordon drinks the same as Ray who is jealous with him for being with Lucille. Maggie prepares a birthday tea as her son gets tipsy. Val keeps her temper with a bossy Mrs Stothert. Gordon arrives home late and Maggie is angry when she smells drink on his breath. She thinks Lucille is to blame.
Part Two: Minnie agrees with Dennis that Ena ought to be sent an invitation to the wedding. A happy Les returns from his bowls match to Maggie's worries that Gordon is drinking in pubs. Les is hurt when Gordon says that he shouldn't worry as he has no intention of turning out like him. Maggie is further annoyed when she discovers her son skipped night school to see Lucille and is worried that people will find out about Les. Ray entertains Lucille in his car. She dislikes his contempt for Gordon. Ken arrives late from work to find the Stotherts annoying Val and informs them the house is not for sale. Once they've gone, he tells Val they'll have to make sure they've got somewhere to move to before they show people round and admits that he only put their name down for a maisonette to keep her quiet. Annie expects Dennis to book the select for the reception. Maggie arrives in the Rovers to talk privately to Annie about Lucille. An annoyed Annie insist she airs any dirty linen she has in public.
