Plot[]
Part One: Emily tells Miklos she's upset about the way she found out the news about his move to Newcastle. He assures her that he didn't request the move and asks to see her later on to talk about it. Dennis is upset that no one has remembered his birthday. Jenny decides it's time she got a job when Elsie makes snide comments about her not having money to buy him a present. Mrs Margaret Clegg turns up to look over the corner shop after seeing the Gazette advert and tells David it's exactly what she's looking for. She says she'll return with her husband. Miklos tells Jerry he'll be gone in three weeks' time. Len is still annoyed over the low cost of the maisonettes tender, even though he's now accepted doing the work. Elsie tells Len she genuinely doesn't want to be bitchy with Jenny but can't help herself as she feels she's too much like her. He suggests she's being too possessive. Irma is on pins when Mrs Clegg brings her husband, Les, to the shop. David thinks he's not as impressed as his wife with the premises. Miklos asks Emily to go on a holiday to Scotland with him that night.
Part Two: David refuses to drop the £1,500 asking price as he shows the Cleggs the books. They tell the Cleggs that Emily will be leaving the bedsit when they sell up. The Cleggs are pleased as they want it for their college son, Gordon. Miklos promises a scared Emily he will not make any demands on her, and she agrees to go with him. Jenny gets a job as a kitchen equipment demonstrator at Ashworths. Elsie buys her a drink to break the ice. Emily packs for her holiday, too occupied to listen to Irma's explanation that she might soon be homeless. Minnie gets a letter from Ena saying she wants to come back and move into one of the maisonettes. She asks a surprised Len to make enquiries for her. Jerry tells Len that Stan wants to be a plumber. The Cleggs decide to buy the shop, delighting David but saddening Irma. Les realises it's a fresh start for them, but referring to some personal issue, admits it's up to him to make it work.
