Plot[]

Part One: Becky tries to forget about their row, but Steve's not in a forgiving mood and orders her to work behind the bar with Tracy while he does extra shifts at Street Cars. Carla tells Maria to take the day off to get glammed up for her evening with Frank. Tracy enjoys baiting Becky as soon as she walks in with a kiss to Steve for giving her extra shifts. Audrey advises Gail not to oppose David's engagement and it will soon fizzle out like all holiday romances. Becky refuses to tell Tracy what lay behind her argument with Sunita. Gail acts nonchalant about "Candy". David susses her tactics and enjoys telling her that the wedding's in three weeks. She explodes and David's triumphant. Becky has to bite her tongue as Tracy tries to provoke her over her inability to have her own children. Izzy takes Owen to task for his treatment of Eileen. He offers her an apology which Eileen reluctantly accepts. Tina bursts into laughter when David tells her and Graeme about his engagement. Graeme suggests they all go to The Royal Panda together that night. Maria doesn't tell Chris about where she's going, instead telling him she's working with Carla.

Part Two: Carla is impressed when Maria is dressed to kill. At the restaurant, Xin's down in the dumps after failing to find a job. Maria arrives at Frank's house to find him in the middle of a culinary disaster. Dev and Sunita are delighted to receive an offer for the Swinton shop. Maria helps Frank rescue the meal. Xin tells Tina that her visa extension is due to expire in two months and she'll be deported unless she gets a job which is linked to her training. Maria relaxes in Frank's company. He chats her up, but she tells him that she's got a boyfriend. When he tries to drive down the price, Maria phones Carla for advice. Becky has enough of Tracy's taunts and grabs hold of her. She backs off before going too far. Tracy's pleased with herself. On the verge of agreeing the deal, Frank leans in to kiss Maria. She's shocked and tries to fend him off. Frank persists and pushes her down onto the sofa, his hands wandering. Panic-stricken Maria finally heaves him off her and bolts from the house in tears. Becky hides her tears from Steve when he arrives back. A panic-struck Maria flags down a taxi to take her back to Weatherfield.

  • Frank Foster claims in this episode that his mother is dead, although six months later she would debut in the form of Anne.
  • Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) is credited twice in error.
  • The taxi driver who picks up Maria Connor as a fare from Didsbury is uncredited although he has a line of dialogue.
  • The scene on Ordle Street, Didsbury was recorded on Byrom Street in Manchester, near to the Quay Street studios. The park was the frequently used St. John's Gardens next to the studio.
