Plot[]
Part One: The students hold a protest outside the Rovers, campaigning for Annie's £5 ransom. When Irma asks Jack on their behalf for the money, he tells her that after a couple of hours, they'll be paying him £10 just to be shut of his wife. Lucille frets what her friends will do next. Elsie doesn't know how to get in touch with Dennis. Jerry broods about his divorce and takes his bitterness out on Elsie when she asks him if he knows where her son is. Minnie becomes an agent for a catalogue. Hilda is annoyed as it's the same firm that she's an agent for. Annie turns up, having thoroughly enjoyed her captivity with the young men at the university and has gladly paid them five guineas for her release. She boasts about flirting with academia and gives the students drinks on the house when they turn up. Jack isn't pleased to hear that she posed in handcuffs for the evening paper. Tim Jordan asks Lucille to appear in the rag procession tomorrow on a float as a 1920s Bathing Beauty. Hilda warns Minnie off her patch. A triumphant Myra crows to Jerry that the divorce won't get to court as she has a reliable witness to prove they were together.
Part Two: The next day, Lucille assembles her costume. Irma discovers that Emily is reading Miklos's books on Communism. Jerry tells Len that he can't believe that anyone local would stick their neck out for Myra. Hilda feels guilty when she thinks that Minnie has taken to drink. Lucille uses David's tie as a headband and dresses up in Annie's old swimsuit for the procession. Annie catches her as she's setting off and forbids her from going. Lucille disobeys her as she's scared of losing Tim's affections and rushes out. Mr Stock calls on Jerry, telling him that Jack is the witness and advises him to change his statement. Len tries to find out what's wrong with a hung-over Elsie but, saying she can't find Dennis and doesn't want to contact Linda, asks to be left alone. Hilda gives Minnie half her catalogue and they go into partnership. Jerry asks a guilt-ridden Jack to commit perjury and claim that he didn't see Myra.
