Plot[]

Part One: Deirdre's in a state of shock as the news of Blanche's sudden death sinks in. She can't understand who her mother was staying with when she finds out that her friend May Penn left her a month ago. Norris accuses Mary of talking to a photo of her dead mother but Mary explains she was on the phone. Norris is cross that she never mentioned she had another working phone. Jason tries to show prospective buyers Iain and Verity Gibson around No.12 but discovers the lock has been changed. He's puzzled when Graeme lets himself out. Graeme covers saying that he's watering the plants for Tina while she's away and he's left his key inside. The Gibsons cancel the viewing. Leanne takes Amy and Simon away from No.1. Carla is pleased that Nick has found another Underworld customer. May calls at No.1 and, as she knocks back the offered drinks, tells Ken and Deirdre how Blanche had fallen in love with a chap called Arnold in Portugal. Whilst Mary's preparing dinner, Norris sneaks into her bedroom to find the phone. He's horrified to see a wedding dress on a tailor's dummy. Norris calls the police and tells them he's being held hostage. As Mary appears in the bedroom, he tells her that the police are on their way.

Part Two: Mary feels betrayed and tries to explain to Norris how she's fallen in love with him. Semi-hysterical, she refuses to let him out of the cottage. Becky makes the Rovers' regulars raise their glasses to Blanche. Norris manages to get out as the police arrive, saying Mary's a maniac who's probably killed her mother. Ken and Deirdre are shocked when May tells them that Blanche accepted Arnold's proposal of marriage last Friday. Jason asks Graeme when Tina will be back and why he changed the locks. Graeme avoids answering. Steve and Ashley offer to buy two of the World Cup tickets from Trevor but he's adamant he's only interested in selling all four spare ones. They consider buying them and selling one on, leaving one with Trevor. May is drunk. A sobbing Deirdre wants to go to Portugal to meet Arnold and see where she was living. Ken checks the flight times. Steve insists they see the social worker when Becky considers postponing. Ken and Deirdre set off. Rita collects Norris from the police station while Mary is kept in for questioning.
