Plot[]
Part One: Ken enjoys some peace and quiet before Deirdre and Liz burst in nattering. Deirdre tells him she's planning a barbecue for Blanche's homecoming. Norris has again barricaded himself in his room but Mary pushes it aside to bring him his breakfast. She knocks his glasses on the floor and "accidentally" crushes them. Unable to see, he panics but Mary tells him from now on she will be his eyes. Graeme hasn't slept well on No.8's sofa. David's plan works as Nick and Natasha plan a day out of the house to avoid Graeme. Ken asks Jason about the feasibility of a loft conversion. Steve tells an unnerved Becky that the social worker is calling to see them on Friday. In an attempt to appease Mary's anger, Norris tells her that he still hasn't decided whether or not to accept her supposed proposal of marriage. Peter, Leanne and Simon come round for the barbeque. Deirdre nags Ken into doing various jobs. Graeme's presence starts to irritate Nick. Norris is uneasy as Mary prepares a meal and tells how her mother once suspected her of attempting to poison her. Behind her back, he swaps the plates around and is caught out when she chokes on an anchovy, which she is allergic to. She demands an explanation.
Part Two: Norris claims he doesn't like salad niçoise delighting Mary, who sees this as another sign of their supposed compatibility. Steve assures Becky that the social worker is coming round just for an informal visit. Trevor tells Ashley that he's stuck with some World Cup tickets which he needs to sell due to a lads' trip away has being cancelled. Graeme calls to see Tina. He does his best to cheer her up but she's still very depressed, although she snaps at his various suggestions to get her life in order. Jason calls round at No.1 to give an estimate for a loft conversion. Deirdre sends him packing and furiously rounds on Ken for going behind her back. Steve and Ashley are very tempted by the chance to buy the tickets. Jason has a couple who want to view No.12 but it means talking to Tina to get her out of the way. Deirdre continues to be snappy with Ken. Peter returns from the airport and tells Deirdre that Blanche wasn't on the flight. Norris is seriously worried when he spies Mary talking to a photograph of her mother and telling her that she's going to marry Norris. Ken comes off the phone from Portugal and tells Deirdre the awful news that Blanche has died.
