Plot[]
Part One: Audrey and David head down to the police station to wait for Gail. Norris is agog at the development. Peter bangs on George's door and demands to see Simon. Wanting to know why Peter has returned early from rehab, George says that he's asleep and refuses to let him in. They begin to row and Leanne summons Ken. Kelly admits to causing the spillage in the factory. Teresa's incensed and flies at her. Carla witnesses the row and sacks Teresa. Kelly and Janice are triumphant. Norris is still refusing to celebrate his birthday, claiming he's now on borrowed time. Mary thinks he would look younger with a full head of hair. Fiz intercepts John's order at The Kabin for some teaching magazines. David and Audrey can't get an answer at the station's front desk about how long Gail will be held. Becky visits Steve in the cab office and they make up. Ken arrives at George's house and insists they discuss the matter calmly inside. Gail's shocked when the police tell her that Rick was not involved in Joe's death and ask her to go through her story again.
Part Two: Jason and Tina also arrive at the station. Gail recounts her story again and admits that she physically tried to prevent Joe going, leading to scratches on his face, though she knows nothing about the bang to his head. Carla's amused when Trevor still thinks she's a cleaner and gives him her number, though not her name. Norris is upset at the poor showing of his presents. Emily tells him that Mary is bringing fetching something that she told her wasn't cheap. Ken and Leanne persuade Peter to collect Simon tomorrow and they leave. Gail tells DC Glynn and DS Carr she knew nothing about the life insurance policy. The police show Gail the insurance document bearing her signature. Utterly surprised, she claims it must be a forgery and refuses the offer of legal representation saying she has nothing to hide. She is let go. Fiz tackles John about the magazines and he tells her that he's not yet ready to give up on his vocation. Teresa tells Kelly she's apologised to Carla who verified what happened with Fiz and she will resume work next week. Mary gives Norris his birthday present - a toupee. He is speechless. Becky agrees with Steve to try again for another baby, and they head for the bedroom. Norris is about to flush the toupee down the Rovers' toilet but changes his mind and tries it on. George confides in Eve that he doesn't think Peter's fit to look after their grandson. Gail tells her waiting family and friends that the police think she killed Joe.
