Plot[]
Part One: A nervous Joe readies Gail Force for the trip to Lake Windermere, telling Jason he'll try to make a Valentine's surprise he's preparing for Tina. He packs a portable dinghy. A sheepish Peter's hung-over as he apologises to Leanne for letting her down but she's too angry and upset to converse with him. Making sure that Rick isn't around, Joe hurries Gail to be ready. A call from Nick delays them. Leanne rings George to apologise. He and Eve explain to Simon that his daddy is ill and they'll be taking and collecting him from school that day. Joe has trouble containing his patience as Nick's call goes on. Deirdre offers to go and see how Peter is in Ken's place to prevent further arguments and points out that it's a good thing that Blanche is still in Portugal. Joe says his goodbyes to Tina, and they finally leave. Leanne throws the bookie's keys at Peter and orders him to open up. Janice bumps into him and gives him a mouthful, telling him how he's let everyone down, but especially Leanne. Rick comes looking for Joe. David explains how he's gone away for a few days. Tina spots them talking from afar. Rick leaves a message for Joe, saying he's not happy.
Part Two: A worried Tina tells David that Rick is a loan shark and Joe's got huge debts. Janice finds a depressed Leanne alone in the empty Joinery and tells her that the bookies is shut. As Joe and Gail prepare to set sail in the boat, Mark and Jane Kenworthy introduce themselves explaining that they live in a neighbouring cottage. Peter has been drinking again. Ken, Deirdre, George and Leanne check the local pubs but there's no sign of him. Joe and Gail set off on the lake in the boat. Joe's in his element whilst Gail's clearly terrified. George agrees to look after Simon whilst Leanne continues to look for Peter. Relaxing in the cottage, Joe and Gail discuss having a better life once their debts are cleared. Gail is shocked when Joe tells her he's been reading about John Darwin disappearance case, and it would be easy to do the same thing. He has thirteen missed calls on his phone from Rick. Peter lets himself into The Joinery and helps himself to the wine left over from the party. Gail hears how Rick has been making Joe's life hell. Joe suggests to Gail he fakes his own death and disappears for seven years in Ireland allowing her to cash in his life insurance policy after that time. Gail's stunned, realising he's got it all worked out.
