Plot[]
Part One: Annie is annoyed as Jack spends his third night in the spare room. Jack's uncomfortable sleeping on a camp bed but considers it better than being nagged. Emily, Irma, David, Dennis, Lucille and Jerry plan an outing to the swimming baths. Ken gets dressed for prison. There's still time to pay the fine but Val knows there's no talking him round. Jack seeks refuge at the yard. Val realises she can't pay the fine because of Ken's reaction as she packs him a case. The customers notice that Annie and Jack aren't speaking to each other.
Part Two: At the swimming baths, Emily's afraid to go underwater and stays at the shallow end. Dennis wears a scuba mask and a gaudy swimsuit from Gamma Garments. He lasts ten seconds in the water before surfacing complaining about cramps. Hilda suggests to Annie that she burns Jack's dinners to teach him a lesson. Dennis tells Jerry that he's phoned Ivan in Birmingham who said that Elsie hasn't been there. PC Conway takes Ken to Strangeways Jail in a police car. Even as he's taken away, Ken refuses to pay the £5. Val tells him she'll never understand him. As Annie beds down for another night without Jack, she calls through to the spare room and is greeted by a stony silence. Assuming that Jack is sulking, she goes to sleep, unaware that Jack has left home.
