Plot[]

Part One: Jack tells Lucille that his kind responses in the truth game were a pack of lies. Ken stands by his actions at the demo, despite his arrest. Val reminds him of his duty to Peter and Susan but he says he did it for them; he wants to create a better world for them. His lack of self-reflection angers David and the brothers row over his pompousness. Ken reveals that he's been charged and is up in court tomorrow. The customers are shocked when the Barlows refuse to sell perishables on a Sunday due to a new law. Annie continues to obsess over Jack's answers in the truth game. She's annoyed that Jack doesn't think it's a serious matter. Ken can't promise Val that he wouldn't do the same again and suggests she leaves him if she doesn't approve. Stan thinks the Barlows are hypocrites for citing the new law to refuse him service when Ken's a criminal.

Part Two: The neighbours are split on whether or not Ken was justified. Ena thinks he's a fool for martyring himself, while not wholly unsympathetic to his cause. Jack has to calm the waters when Jerry, supporting Ken, rows with Stan. In court, Ken pleads not guilty. The arresting officer, Inspector Mason, holds him responsible for the students blocking the road. Ken makes an unsworn statement rather than take the witness box, saying that he felt the request for the students to leave was unreasonable. The magistrate finds Ken guilty and fines him £5. Jack throws the Gazette away. Irma tells David she wants a baby in two years. Ken tells Val that he has to pay the fine or go to prison for seven days. Reasoning that taking the lesser punishment would be like admitting he was wrong, he shocks Val by saying he's not paying the fine.

Ena Sharples: "Funny word, respect. It means more than it seems to mean, if you ask me. It's what 'e does not what 'e says that shows respect in a fella."
