Plot[]

Minnie applies for a supplementary pension and advises Ena to do so - getting £4 10/- a week and rent paid. Secretly, Ena is interviewed by the social security. She is told she'll get £5 a week as her rent is free. She is convinced that she is entitled to it. Irma refuses Hilda tick until Stan gets a job. The social man, Mr Hale, says Vera can have £3 19/-. - TV Times synopsis: In which Ena discovers the benevolence of authority, and Stan feels its sting
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 6,050,000 homes (15th place - this low rating was explained by the BBC airing the comedy series Till Death Us Do Part directly against this episode).
- No episode was shown on 4th January 1967 due to a strike at Granada Television. The strike began at 6.30pm on the 4th and was called in protest over an announcement by management that a bonus payment which had been made at Christmas would not be repeated in the forthcoming December. The strike lasted just one and a half hours but it meant that Granada were unable to transmit that night's editions of University Challenge or Coronation Street to the ITV network.
