Plot[]

Part One: Linda buys an expensive sweater for Mike. Elsie passes on the letter from Canada. Jerry is oblivious to what's going on as Sheila avoids spending time with him. Linda is heartbroken to read in the letter that Mike has another girl; he wasn't willing to wait for her. She thinks she's made a fool of herself but Elsie's just glad the letter arrived in time to stop her from making a terrible mistake. Linda holds back the tears as she gives the sweater to Ivan. Len and Jerry taunt Stan by eating pies in front of him in the Rovers. He puts them in their place by weighing himself and showing that he's lost two pounds. Elsie informs Len that Neil Crossley is back in town and might be seeing Sheila.

Part Two: Len tells Jerry about Sheila and Neil. Jerry thinks he's mistaken when he admits it isn't definite. He says Neil is the last person Sheila would want to see. Sheila tells Neil about their son, Danny, and how Jerry helped get her through the adoption. She doesn't know how to tell Jerry it's over as it'd break him into pieces. Neil tells her to leave it to him. The Cheveskis have farewell drinks at the Rovers. Stan resists the temptation to imbibe. Elsie doesn't see them off at the taxi as she's too upset. Jerry decides to ask Sheila directly, believing that she has too much sense to go back to Neil. Neil arrives at the yard to speak to Jerry.
