Plot[]
Part One: Irma is fed up with the factory but is too proud to quit. Dennis is back to his usual carefree self. Jerry tells Len that Myra and her father have gone quiet. Annie instructs Jack to stay out of the way when Mrs Arkinstall visits. Hilda can't help David out at the shop as Annie gets her to clean the entire Rovers including the living quarters. David can barely cope with all the customers. Irma takes the opportunity to skive off when Jack Benjamin sends her to see Len about a job at the factory. Mrs Arkinstall arrives at the Rovers. Annie's in the middle of apologising for Jack's behaviour when the woman assures her that she's read the riot act to her husband. She tells Annie that Jack should be proud of the way he dealt with him. Jack walks round the block until the coast is clear. He returns thinking Mrs Arkinstall has left and is puzzled to be greeted warmly by both women. Harry Bishop asks questions about Jerry at the Rovers.
Part Two: Jack and Annie take turns entertaining Mrs Arkinstall while the other minds the bar. The latter is impressed with Jack and his pearls of wisdom, while Annie's annoyed that Jack is monopolising her guest. Harry makes out he's an acquaintance of Jerry and gets it out of Minnie that he's in a relationship with Sheila. Ena's suspicious of Harry, especially when she hears that he bought Minnie two milk stouts. Minnie tells her everything and Ena realises who Bishop is. Irma's told off for taking a long tea break. She's threatened with the sack but resigns. David tells her he wants her back at the shop and she lets him believe she's quitting to do him the favour. Ena warns Elsie that Bishop is a private investigator and asks what they're going to do about it.
