Plot[]
Part One: Val is upset when Ken forgets their wedding anniversary. Ken asks David to send flowers to No.9 so he can pretend he remembered. Dennis is late for work as Sheila gets to the bathroom before him. He decides to sack it off for the day when Len promptly sends Jerry along to fetch him. Complaining to Jed about how he's treated at home, Dennis is amazed to hear that Minnie lets her lodger choose his meals. Val's thrilled when she receives the flowers. Her smile disappears when she reads the card - from David.
Part Two: Sheila tells Dennis that she waited for him to get out of bed as long as she could. She offers to move out of No.11 if she's in the way but Dennis tells her not to, as Elsie would accuse him of driving her out. Ken agrees to an expensive night out to make it up to Val. He's annoyed that David paid £2 for the flowers when there were cheaper ones available. Ken hears from a teacher friend about Annie going into politics. Jack asks him to keep it to himself as Annie would blame him if it got around the street. Elsie's furious to hear from Jerry that Dennis didn't show up from work. When she has a go at Dennis, he assumes Sheila dobbed him in and accuses her of trying to con Jerry into marriage, causing her to run out in tears. Minnie wants to do more for other people. Elsie tells Sheila to take no notice of Dennis. Dennis decides he's going to leave, fed up with work and living with women. He packs and goes. Elsie is confident he'll return.
