Part One: Ena is taken to the store manager's office, where she's accused of not paying for two tins of salmon at 4/6 each. She says the checkout girl must have missed them but the manager saw her put them in her basket. Minnie realises Ena is confused and refuses to leave her side. Ena is furious that she's being called a thief. The brewery asks for more home-cooked meals at the Rovers. Annie replaces Brenda's hotpot with goulash as it's more select. The customers won't bite. P.C. Russell takes Ena to the station where she's charged with intent to shoplift. She's upset that her good name counts for nothing and believes she's being made an example of. Elsie's endowment policy expires and she has £50. Val persuades her to use the money to decorate. Ena makes the police search the vestry and No.5 to prove she's not a thief.

Part Two: Elsie tries out different wallpapers for Val and Lucille's approval. Jed breaks the news of Ena's arrest to the residents. Ena's told to come to the magistrates court for her hearing tomorrow. Jed and Elsie put and exhausted Minnie to bed. Elsie tells Ena she hopes it all works out but Ena insists she's innocent. Jerry defends Ena when Annie and Hilda gossip about her, saying it happens all the time. Ken makes arrangements to take Ena to court in his car. He advises her to get a solicitor but she says she doesn't need one. Elsie thinks Ena must be guilty as she was caught red-handed. The residents agree and hope for leniency. Ken tells the gossips that Ena plans to plead not guilty. Minnie worries that the case will be reported in the paper and Ronald Nesbitt will see it. Ena comforts herself with the fact that she and God know she's innocent as she awaits her day in court.
