Plot[]

Ivan is deliriously happy as he looks at his son through the glass partition of the hospital's nursery window. Concepta teases Harry when he is off his darts game. Esther is found working late by her boss, Brian Foley. He sees that something is worrying her and she admits she's concerned by Tom's constantly failing schemes for making money. Brian offers to come round to No.5 and have a word with him. Minnie and Martha receive postcards from Ena on her holiday in Bridlington. Ena correctly guesses that Martha has occupied her chair in the snug. Offended, Martha hopes she misses the baby's birth. At Len's suggestion, Jack starts a penny pile at the Rovers for charity. Christine keeps a fretting Elsie company in the pub as she waits for news. Arthur brings a policeman colleague, Peter Derwent, into the Rovers with him. Ivan bursts in with the news that Elsie is a grandmother. She cries with happiness. Christine is told to round up the absent residents and they gather to celebrate the new birth with drinks all round. Florrie wins the "weight" bet, collecting £2 10/- on a guess of 7lb 10oz. Albert tries to claim that the guess was his and Florrie only put the money on. Christine collects Florrie from the shop to join in the celebrations. A drunk Martha criticises Ivan for not buying the snug ladies drinks, just before Billy hands a round over the counter for them from the new father. Florrie buys a round with her winnings. An over-emotional Elsie cries as she remembers Linda's birth. The next morning, Christine tells Esther she saw her at a Billy Graham crusade a few nights ago. They both admit they went up to the platform to give their lives to Christ but Christine admits she has already backslided. Frank is hung-over and grumpy from the party at the breakfast table. David receives a letter from County which astonishes him. Ivan is horrified to learn from Elsie that he started a striptease whilst drunk at the party, until Annie stopped him. David's letter says that County's been offered £1,000 to transfer him to a second division London club. Ida's horrified when he points out that he'll have to move to the capital.

Len Fairclough (about Alf Roberts): "When it comes to givin' money away, he's like a fellah with no arms."
