Plot[]
Part One: Ken cancels his bread order from the shop. David is stunned when he casually mentions that he's shopping for one now. Elsie finds Jim's little black book in his coat pocket but doesn't read it. She's annoyed that Dennis hasn't been into the novelty works for a week in order to help Jed. Irma tells David that Val has gone to her mother's with the twins. She accidentally lets Ena overhear. Ena warns a recovering Jerry that Ray wants watching. Jack puts Jed and Dennis onto his bank, Country and Northern, when they decide to open an account. Ken gets Lucille to admit that she had someone in No.9 but she lies and says it was a lad from the coffee shop. He's annoyed when Ena appears and rescues Lucille from the interrogation. Getting the full story out of Ken, Ena tells him to concentrate on getting Val back and to leave Lucille to her.
Part Two: Jim tries to get one of the men to go on a double date with him. Jerry, Len and Ken turn him down. Ena gets Ray to do a job at the vestry, insisting that he come at a specific time. Jed and Dennis open a bank account in the name of "Viaduct Auction Rooms". Jed passes the secretarial work onto Dennis when the manager warns him he could be prosecuted if he passes bad cheques. Elsie worries that Dennis will lose his job because of Jed. Jack decides not to try for the President's Cup again. Ken puts it about that Val is away visiting her mother in Glasgow. Annie isn't fooled and knows Val has left him. Ena gets Lucille and Ray in the vestry at the same time to talk to them about the £5.
