Plot[]
The residents of the street have all heard that Richard has confessed to Maxine's murder before he absconded. The news is broken to Emily, who is upset when she realises that he was intending to kill her but Maxine interrupted him. She admits to Norris that he was right about Richard all along, and Norris proceeds to comfort her. At the same time, the police call on Ashley and Fred to inform them that Richard was the one who killed Maxine and that he also framed Ade for the crime. Ashley is distraught by this revelation and, upon thinking about Richard's speech at Maxine's funeral, decides to confront Gail about her husband. Elsewhere, Deirdre apologises to Ken for doubting his judgement of Aidan. She then joins Sunita in taking Shelley out shopping for a wedding dress. As Audrey tries to support her family at her house, Ashley storms in to have it out with Gail over the news he just heard. He angrily berates her, refuses to accept that she knew nothing of Richard's activities, and asks how she can act like she is after knowing what happened to Maxine. The situation gets out of control and Ashley loses it with Gail, prompting Martin to step in and restrain him with both Audrey and Fred helping out too. Gail thereupon breaks down saying she wishes Richard had killed her too. David defends her from Ashley, who eventually leaves the house. Ashley later visits Emily, who is guilt-ridden with the news about Richard and apologises to Ashley before expressing that Richard should have killed her and not Maxine. They embrace when Ashley hugs her. Norris loves the fact that his suspicions of Richard from the beginning have all come true. He goes as far as to mention Richard's involvement in Duggie's fatal accident, before Vera then mentions about the time Richard convinced her and Jack to invest £20,000 in his company. Rita reconciles with Norris by apologising for doubting him about Richard. At the same time, Peter calls to see Lucy again. He gets down on one knee and proposes for the second time. This time Lucy accepts. Audrey and Gail make amends for all the terrible things they've said to each other. Gail thereafter resolves to try and get back to normal as possible.
