Plot[]
Part One: A remorseful Len frees Jerry from the scaffolding which fell on top of him. He calls for an ambulance when he finds him bleeding from the head. Dennis asks Ena to write his music down when he hums the tunes to her. She isn't keen but indulges him for one song. The brewery men blame Len for what happened to Jerry. Len makes excuses for why he didn't witness the accident when they were meant to be working together. Ena performs Dennis's song There's a Place in My Heart for You. She's surprised it isn't more hip. Jed finds premises for the auction room. Unconscious Jerry is taken to hospital. Len goes with him in the ambulance. Jim arranges to take Elsie to a ceildh at an Irish club for a pre-birthday night out. Ronnie Wigg tries to protect Len but the brewery's chief Mr Cunliffe finds an empty beer bottle in the yard and gets Joss Lightfoot to confirm that he and Len were drinking on the job.
Part Two: Dennis discovers Jed has hired the viaduct for premises. He thinks it's a dump but agrees to go halves on the rent for half the business. Ena tells Elsie that Jerry's had an accident and it might be Len's fault. Elsie cancels on Jim and rushes to Len's side. Rumours circulate that Jerry is in a coma but Len tells Elsie that the hospital wouldn't tell him anything. Jim is annoyed at being stood up and shows Stan his little black book. Len tells Elsie he's frightened that Jerry won't recover. Mr Cunliffe visits him and says he's terminating his contract as the scaffolding has been checked over and it wasn't safe.
