Plot[]
Part One: Hilda tells Stan to get Jim out of her house. Jim bets Stan that he can change Hilda's mind. Elsie has no sympathy for Dennis as he searches for his identity in bed. He plays up his illness when Ena arrives to administer home remedies to him. Jim gets round Hilda by giving his rent to her and not Stan. Jed tries to sell Lucille a tape recorder. Ena accuses Annie of selling dodgy meat pies at the Rovers when she has an upset stomach. Annie says it can't be them as Jack ate one and isn't sick. Concepta invites Lucille and the Walkers for a holiday in Ireland. A customer complains to Ray that no one turned up to do a job. Jerry is angry with Len as it was his responsibility. He realises the business is sinking and warns Len he's going to drink himself to death. Len doesn't take any notice.
Part Two: Stan loses the bet and has to buy Jim a pint as a forfeit. Jed leaves the tape recorder for Dennis to play with. He records himself singing on it and gets an idea when Minnie points out that Ena can write music. Len refuses to help Jerry at the brewery when he nags him. Jim throws a bucket of water over Dennis's bed to get him up only to discover he's already up and about again, having decided to write songs with Ena. Hilda asks Minnie for advice on what to charge Jim for rent. Minnie admits that Jed doesn't always pay her in money but in thoughtful gestures. She settles on £4 a week but lets Stan think she's only charging him £2.10 so that his 10% cut only comes to 5/-. Len is playing cards with Joss Lightfoot when Jerry falls off some scaffolding.
