Part One: David is embarrassed by Stan's interfering. Irma calls him selfish as by not fighting back he's letting them both down. Annie picks up Emily's photographs. Hilda thinks about taking the Barlows in but Stan tells her it wouldn't work. The local paper responds to David's enquiries by running a piece on his sacking. The reporter, Clive Owen, thinks David's been treated badly and tries to make him admit that the clause in his contract was never explained to him. David tells him not to stir up trouble. Dennis intercepts the photos at the Rovers before anyone has seen them. Elsie is pleased to see Jim Mount at the pub. Irma finds the flat empty.

Part Two: The residents look through Emily's photos and are scandalised by the nude shots of Jerry. They assume Emily took them but when Jerry sees them he makes Dennis confess. He says he did it for a laugh. David calls on Sid Lambert and is offered the job on the factory floor. David refuses to go back where he started. Elsie goes out with Jim. She feels at home with him. David tells Irma about Lambert's offer and calls it a kid's job. Stan orders him to stop moping and take the offer. Elsie lets Jim know that she's a grandmother. He isn't bothered and helps her take down her Christmas decorations. Ken is picked up from Granston Technical College by reporter Jackie Marsh in a sports car.
