Plot[]
Part One: Lionel is amazed when Sandra questions Dennis's sanity regarding the Christmas trees and seems to have gone off him. Dennis puts the trees in all the backyards to the residents' fury. Jack demands he move them as the draymen won't be able to make deliveries but Annie likes them as they put her in mind of the countryside. Engineer Jim Mount installs a lacquer red telephone at No.11. Elsie is taken with his Irish charm. Lucille agrees to go on a date to a club with Kenny Stevens.
Part Two: Jerry agrees to let Dennis store his trees at the builder's yard for £5 a week. Ken tells Annie that the insurance company is paying for the fire damage at No.9. Elsie enjoys Jim's cheek and lets him stay for tea. Dennis is excited to test the new phone. Sandra tells Dennis she's had enough of being used. Clara keeps house for David in Albert's absence. Sandra entertains Lucille, Kenny and Wendy at the shop flat. Lucille's surprised to hear that Kenny's had nineteen jobs since leaving school as he wants to experience life before settling down. Sandra shocks Lionel by making it plain to him that she is not going to be content living over the shop, after being impressed by Kenny's independence. Jim and Elsie carry on their flirtation over the phone.
