Plot[]
Part One: The residents make the last minute arrangements for the community bonfire. David, Stan and Jerry pile the firewood at the croft. Stan warns them about the wood being pinched when they're not there but with Jerry and David going off to do other things he's the one left guarding it. Emily worries that the gowns won't be ready in time for the fashion show when she finds out they've only just left head office. Ena refuses to let the refreshments be served in the vestry. Jerry accuses Len of sulking when he sends him to Coventry. Finding a guy he's made for the children, Jerry calls out his hypocrisy over Alan, suggesting he's just as soft as everyone else deep down. Len laughs at the accusation and makes up with him. Len goes to get a mask for the guy from Dennis only to find Dennis has also made a guy for the bonfire.
Part Two: The gowns arrive for the fashion show but they all want altering. Len gives Dennis's guy away for another bonfire. Alan tells Jerry he heard him rowing with Len and gives him money for a new plane. Jerry returns it and tells him not to worry. Everyone abandons Emily for one reason or another and she's left to do the alterations on her own. Len, Jerry, Irma, David, Ena, Minnie, Lucille, Stan, Dennis, and Sandra attend the bonfire. Dennis sets off a banger in his face thinking it's a rainbow casket. Back in the street, Annie, Jack, Elsie and Hilda get nostalgic for Guy Fawkes nights past. With everyone enjoying themselves, Emily slaves away in the vestry.

Notes[]
- Elsie Tanner remembers Dennis Tanner being terrified by his first firework display just after the war, stating that he was six years old at the time and Linda was twelve. This contradicts references elsewhere to the siblings being only two years apart in age, born in 1942 and 1940 respectively.
- The scenes at the croft were filmed in the car park of Granada Studios. The bonded warehouse and rear of what would later become the Rosamund Street Medical Centre building on the 1982 Outdoor Set (which later doubled as the replica Rovers Return Inn on the Granada Studios Tour) can be seen in the background.
- TV Times synopsis: Fireworks in the Street
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 4,880,000 homes (chart placing unknown - the BBC scheduled Steptoe and Son directly opposite this episode of Coronation Street resulting in a lower than usual figure).
