Plot[]
Part One: Len finds the toast rack before Alan can tell Jerry about it. When Jerry denies making it, Len throws it on the bonfire pile, thinking it's junk. Albert's chuffed with his new coat and wears it for warmth while carrying out his crossing duties. Lucille is bewildered by chemist Kenny Stevens at the mill, who doesn't want to get on in life. Jack and Lionel are amazed that Lucille is warning £8 a week at the mill. Minnie and Clara bake a cake for the bonfire but can't read Ena's recipe as she's scribbled the ingredients at the bottom. Mr Papagopoulos agrees to pay Ena for the extra cleaning. Len grows suspicious when Jerry rescues the toast rack.
Part Two: Kenny tells Lucille he isn't ambitious as he works for himself not to acquire possessions. She's intrigued by his nonchalant attitude. Minnie and Clara's cake doesn't turn out right but they decide to serve it anyway. Jerry gets more wood for his lessons with Alan. Len is annoyed by him cluttering up the yard. Jerry is horrified to hear from Albert that a little boy has burnt his fingers off, playing with fireworks. He's relieved to learn it's not Alan. Lucille's preoccupied with Kenny and his worldview. Len catches Alan in the yard and finds out what's been going on when the lad apologises for dropping his plane. He calls Jerry a mug and they row to Alan's horror.
