Plot[]
Part One: David wears Dennis out with jogging. Annie drafts a letter to her MP about the survey. She asks Ken to look over it for her and is quietly annoyed when he suggests improvements. Sandra suggests to Dennis that gentle exercises on the floor would be more easy-going. Ena goes to the Town Hall to see the surveyor. Dennis borrows dumbbells from Jerry. Mr Sinclair palms Ena off on his assistant, Norman Barker. When she's told that Sinclair is too busy to see her, she waits until he's available. The photographer, Eddie Syms, refuses to deny rumours that Coronation Street is being demolished to build office blocks.
Part Two: Dennis starts weight-lifting after taking advice from Jerry. After less than a minute he gives up and investigates losing weight with hypnosis. David and Irma look forward to some time alone when they baby-sit the twins. Albert amuses himself by pretending to dump himself on them before beating a hasty retreat. Eddie tries to take his comments back when people take him at his word. Dennis weighs himself and finds he's put on 17oz. Ena waits all afternoon for Mr Sinclair. The man in question enters, assuming she's already left, and is forced to deal with her. He takes her into his office when she blocks the door with her foot to show that she won't be fobbed off. Val reveals to Ken that she's signed up for evening classes at art college, studying sociology. Ena announces in the Rovers that the council's plans are to build a ring road through Coronation Street.
