Plot[]
Part One: Len enjoys sharing the house with Jerry. Lucille starts work in the office at Mitchell's furniture warehouse. Annie tells her to keep the other girls at a distance as they'll try to lead her astray. Victoria, Babs and Josie get Lucille making up envelopes. She's disappointed she doesn't have more responsibility. Albert blames Annie for putting Ted Bates off and stands with his back to her at the Rovers. On Jerry's 23rd birthday, Len sends his apprentice round to the house for his present. Jerry thinks it's a prank when he opens an empty gift box but is amazed when he turns to see a sign for "Fairclough and Booth" builders.
Part Two: Len plans a party for Jerry with the home-made beer. Stan, Charlie, Dennis, David and Irma attend but Elsie, in a foul mood, turns down the invitation when he takes her acceptance for granted. Lucille is chatted up by loader, Barry, at work. Albert finds out from David that Ted is at the Rovers and fetches him to No.1. Annie is friendly towards Ted and says there was a misunderstanding last time. Ted tells Albert he's run away from an OAP home as he doesn't want to be forgotten like his fellow residents. He tells him he can't go to his daughter's as her husband doesn't like him. Albert puts him up on his sofa. Len doesn't get Jerry to sign any papers, telling the lad that as far as he's concerned, they're partners. The beer goes off so the men buy booze from the off-licence in Viaduct Street. Jack joins them and immediately guesses where the liquor is from when they try to fool him into thinking it's their home brew. Albert's sideboard mysteriously jumps in the night.
