Plot
Norris eventually convinces Vera to be his partner by buying her a new frock. They draw with the reigning champions, the Kershaws, and have a dance off. Vera enjoys herself but Norris panics under the pressure. Tyrone and Maria decide to keep their engagement a secret as he wants to formally ask her father's permission. Jack spikes Grace Kershaw's drink with vodka so she can't control her legs and Vera and Norris win the contest. Les takes over the eighteenth party at the Rovers, installing himself as DJ. Toyah is embarrassed by his blatant attempts to impress Paul Beck, the boss at the radio station. Her friends dislike DSS-employed Spider and she ends up going clubbing without him. Gary agrees to keep in contact with Paula when he's back in Weatherfield. The Duckworths leave Blackpool. Vera is upset when Tommy begs her to take him with her. In order to stop Mark from leaving the country, desperate Linda tells him that if he leaves now, he will never see his dad again because he's dying.
