Plot[]
Annie continues to be cool towards Jack. Stan is inexplicably keen for it to rain. Len reports that Elsie has started work at the Laundryer. Hilda is suspicious when Stan changes his socks twice in one morning. Annie goes after the position of chairperson at the Weatherfield Ladies Licensed Victuallers. Stan starts filtering rainwater through a sock into a tank in his back yard. He shares his secret plan to brew beer with Charlie using equipment a mate sold him for £3. Annie hears noises from inside the vestry and alerts Minnie. The women march over there with Stan and Charlie and catch the mission cleaner, Clara Midgeley, using Ena's china. Minnie shouts Clara down over her presumptuousness, looking out for Ena. Annie discovers that a rival landlady, Mrs Henderson, has fallen out of favour with the Lady Victuallers. She invites influential landlady Nellie Harvey to afternoon tea, hoping to win her support. Jack is knocked for six when Annie suggests that he go bowling, after doing nothing but complain about his obsession with the sport. Len and Charlie buy themselves into Stan's set-up for £1 each. Charlie is tasked with getting Hilda out of the way for a while. They put Albert on guard duty but don't tell him about the beer-making. Hilda discovers Stan's beer-making equipment in the yard. Minnie thinks she went too far with Clara and makes up with her. Emily finds her entertaining Clara when she comes over to introduce the pair. Charlie is too late to keep Hilda distracted at the Rovers as Jack has just put the towels up. Hilda returns to No.13 and catches the men in the yard. Albert arrives after her as he can't keep up with Hilda. It's discovered that Hilda has returned all of Stan's bottles to the off-licence for cash.
