Plot
David and Irma have gone public with their engagement. Many of the residents are sceptical of the union. Val pushes Ken towards buying a car. Ken gives the engagement a week at the most. Irma worries that David will change for the worse once they're married. Elsie switches to mints in an effort to quit smoking. Albert is especially grumpy as he struggles to make ends meet on his pension. Val accidentally rub his nose in it when she complains about not having a car. Hilda starts planning for the wedding. Annie thinks David is marrying beneath him. David hires Len for some odd jobs at the social club. Jack tries for the President's Cup at the bowling club when Annie says the idea is ridiculous. Dennis decides to pack Gerard's Salon in. Elsie refuses to let him be idle as she wants to see a return on her £65. Hilda is disappointed that Irma isn't in a hurry to get married. Irma is annoyed that Ken hasn't congrulated her and David yet and pulls him up on it when he shops at Petty's and makes no mention of the engagement. David thinks Ken isn't happy for him and asks Val why. Val says he has a lot on his mind. Ken takes over the drama group at the tech when the teacher goes down with chickenpox. Val banishes him from the house in case he's carrying it and makes the twins sick. Dennis applies for a job at a salon and gets an interview. Albert feels sorry for himself and thinks nobody cares about him. Ken realises with horror that the Ogdens will be his in-laws.
