Coronation Street Wiki

Plot[]

The area prepares for the Queen's visit. The route will take the monarch from Viaduct Street station to Granston Technical College via Rosamund Street, bypassing Coronation Street. The residents make plans to get the best view. A cynical Ena calls it bread and circuses. Len tries to interest Florrie in going to Europe with Emily instead. Minnie offers to sell her television for Charlie but she can't as it's rented. Val presses Ken's best suit as there's a chance he'll be presented to the Queen. Hilda tries to forget her troubles for the day and concentrate on the royal visit. She wonders about Florrie's mysterious business trips. Minnie is surprised that Ena is so dismissive of the Queen. Ena refutes this and reveals a secret excursion to London in 1953 to attend Queen Mary's funeral. Charlie avoids Ena in case she brings up the money he still owes her. There's a burst water main so the procession has to be changed to come down Coronation Street. The council provides window boxes while Ena organises the decorations. The street is lined with bunting and crash barriers as onlookers start to arrive. Ken sets off for college on his scooter. Minnie sets the table at No.5 in case the Queen pops in. Mr Kirby tells Charlie that the district manager believes his report of how the money was lost but it'll count against him when his probation period ends. The residents hear cheering crowds in the distance but the procession doesn't appear. A policeman lets them know that the leak has been repaired so the Queen is back on the original route. They run off to join the crowds in Rosamund Street. Ken is presented to the Queen at the Tech. Charlie leaves the street at midnight.
