Plot[]
Stan helps Jack write a telegram to send to Val in hospital - "I bet that's a weight off your mind, from all at the Rovers." Annie disdainfully dictates a more appropriate message and gets him to send their best wishes to Lucille on the first night of her school play. Willie Piggott tells Len he's getting into property development, converting six old houses into thirty-six flats. Len turns down the plumbing contract when he hears it's in Blackburn; he'd have to pay for digs. He tells Piggott about the supermarket deal with Jenkinson. Jerry thinks he's mad to turn down a job worth £1,000. The Barlows have decided on Susan Ida for the girl and Peter for the boy. Ken is delirious at being a father. Annie takes suggestions on what to do with the £4 collection money for the twins. Elsie finds No.9 a tip and does the cleaning for Ken, roping Dennis in. Jenkinson tells Len the deal is off and he's going with Roscoe & Pitts instead. Jerry is amazed that Len still plans to say no to Piggott and accuses him of having no ambition. Stan tells the builders that he saw Piggott coming out of Jenkinson's this morning. Val is to be kept in hospital until next week. Len tackles Piggott in the Rovers and discovers he told Jenkinson that Len wouldn't have time for the job. Len tells Piggott he won't have his mind made up for him. Elsie picks up her cigarettes from No.9 and finds Hilda tidying up. Hilda remarks that the place hadn't been touched for days when she started, not recognising Elsie's own efforts. Len realises he's in a rut in Weatherfield and wonders what to do.
