Plot[]
With Val still at Len's, Ken fetches Charlie back from the Rovers to move the furniture and carpets in No.9 prior to Ted Grieves starting work first thing tomorrow. Val comes in and is furious to find out Ken's accepted the high estimate. Len and Elsie return to their bantering ways with each other. Ken escapes Val's wrath by going back to the Rovers. He thinks she's scrubbing the floorboards but instead she enjoys a quiet moment with a magazine. She's perturbed to hear noises coming from the supposedly empty No.7. Within that house, someone stands in the back room with a lit candle. Val runs to the Rovers to fetch help. Elsie backs Val up by saying she has also seen a light coming from under the front door. Jack guesses who it is and goes into the property where he finds Lucille alone with her memories. He realises she's been missing her family and stays and chats with her. The next morning, Ted turns up just before lunchtime instead of first thing as promised. Ken wimps out of confronting him. Annie sets out for a trip to Manchester. Ted takes umbrage when Ken makes a few mild comments about him doing a good job and storms out of the house. Val is at her wits' end although Len is amused that Ted is acting to form. Len offers to lend Ken the equipment to do the job himself. Annie goes to the Commercial Bank where she presents one of her cheques for cashing. She's asked to go into Mr Powell's office. Ken is at a loss as to what he said that upset Ted. Val takes her anger out on him. Charlie agrees to do the job for them. Annie is astonished to discover that their account is £63 overdrawn as a result of cheques being frequently cashed. Mr Powell suggests she talks to Jack about it.

Notes[]
- This episode features the final appearance of the interior of 7 Coronation Street until Episode 2224 (26th July 1982). In the interim, the front of the house collapsed due to a faulty beam in Episode 492 (30th August 1965) and there was a gap in the middle of the Coronation Street terrace filled with a bench until Len Fairclough bought the land and rebuilt the property.
- As Lucille Hewitt sits on the stairs in 7 Coronation Street, she recalls being in the exact same place and confessing to her father that she left Christopher Hewitt on his own outside Gamma Garments prior to his kidnap by Joan Akers. A short extract of the soundtrack from Episode 189 (3rd October 1962) is played to illustrate this moment and Ivan Beavis receives a credit as Harry Hewitt for this clip.
- Annie Walker writes out a cheque from one of the (then) real-life District Bank's books, however the sign in the window of the set as seen in the previous episode stated it was the Commercial Bank.
- From Episode 172 (6th August 1962) to Episode 459 (5th May 1965) the programme featured a standardised cast list for the regular characters. This means that in this episode the following were credited but did not appear: Albert Tatlock (Jack Howarth), Ena Sharples (Violet Carson), Minnie Caldwell (Margot Bryant), Florrie Lindley (Betty Alberge), Miss Nugent (Eileen Derbyshire), Dennis Tanner (Philip Lowrie), Irma Ogden (Sandra Gough), Stan Ogden (Bernard Youens) and Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander).
- TV Times synopsis: A walk-out at the Barlows and a nasty jolt for Annie
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 9,060,000 homes (2nd place).
Notable dialogue[]
Valerie Barlow: "I'm not laughing, Charlie Moffitt."
Charlie Moffitt: "No, I've noticed it. I have that effect on people...every club I've played."
