Plot[]
Stan comes into the corner shop where Florrie, Irma, Minnie and Ena are discussing the police action against the Walkers and the possible loss of their livelihood. Len kids Ena on when she questions him about the late time he left No.11 the night before, claiming he was also a victim of the phantom clock-stopper. Stan refuses to help Len with a list of jobs he needs doing in order that he can make the kick-off at the afternoon's match. Emily helps Val choose new furnishings for the nursery at No.9. Val offers her the role of godmother. Emily is ecstatic at the request. Ken isn't pleased to be given a list of decorating jobs that need doing. He accepts Albert's invitation to come to the match with Stan and Len. Stan gets nervous of the constant talk about the clock. Len and Albert make Dennis join them in going to the match. Stan makes a shame-faced confession to the Walkers that he was the one who sabotaged the clock. He offers to confess to the police. The football goers see Stan being driven in the back of a police car. When they come home after the match, they tell a worried Hilda what they saw. Elsie is shattered after a day at work and tells Len and Dennis to cook their own tea when they are hungry. Dennis goes to eat out when he sees the state of Len's cooking. Len thinks he couldn't stand the constant moods and rows in No.11. Elsie refuses to give up her job or her ways for him. Sergeant Bowden brings Stan home, having dropped any charges. He reveals that he was merely giving Stan a lift to the match in the police car. Irma and Hilda are disgusted that he kept them in the dark about what was going on. Ena spots Len leaving No.11 hours earlier than usual. He goes to use the Barlows' phone, ringing Harry Bailey's sister to say that he has an answer for him about Stanley.

Notes[]
- The scene of Ken Barlow, Dennis Tanner, Albert Tatlock and Len Fairclough spotting Stan Ogden in the back of a police car with Sergeant Bowden was shot on silent film in Albert Square, Manchester. It was accompanied by the stock incidental music track of, appropriately, Marche du gendarme by Pierre Arvay and his orchestra. This music replaced Eric Spear's usual theme over the "End of Part One" caption.
- Constable Barnes (Rex Boyd) is credited but does not appear, unless he is the driver of the police car carrying Stan Ogden and Sergeant Bowden but, if so, his face is never clearly seen in the film sequence to confirm the fact.
- From Episode 172 (6th August 1962) to Episode 459 (5th May 1965) the programme featured a standardised cast list for the regular characters. This means that in this episode Lucille Hewitt (Jennifer Moss) and Charlie Moffitt (Gordon Rollings) were credited but did not appear.
- TV Times synopsis: Len makes up his mind and Stan has dealings with the police
- Viewing Figures: First UK broadcast - 9,192,000 homes (joint 1st place with 9th November 1964).
Notable dialogue[]
- Ena Sharples (to Minnie Caldwell): "Anyway, Pussy Galore, what have you got to report?"
